Client: Thiess/Peabody

Location: Burton Downs CHPP, Central QLD

Pipe Size: Gold 219 ID 20 WT

Qty: 1.6km (4 lines of 300m + spare)

Connection Type: Stub flange- Table E

Date of Purchase: September 2012

Date of install: March 2013

Summary

Results indicate that we are outperforming the previously used PE100
4 to 1 in terms of wall thickness lost per co-disposal ton, on this site.

Furthermore, as a by-product of the smoother pipe, it has been indicated
that blockage frequency was greatly reduced.

Comments

Lower velocity, lower pressure, and most significantly, lower max solid
size will provide a HUGE improvement in this
performance when compared with Steeel or PE100.

Client: Peabody

Location: Coppabella CHPP

Qty:~ 1.5km- 2lines

Connection Type: Stub flange- Table E

Date of Purchase: August 2014

Date of install: October 2014

Summary

The wear loss exhibited is similar to that of Hardened Steel. Our product being
30mm thick and the "extra strong" 250ID steel being 12.7mm means we have a lot
more wall thickness to play with prior to requiring rolling. Both being similary priced.
Should this be managed properly, the average lifespan of pipe will be 3 years (for
both lines)- rather than 1.5 years attributed to Steel.

Comments

The wear rate in straight lines was less than steel despite the high percentage of
150mm sharp rock.

The wear rate was exacerbated greatly in areas of severe misalignment.

Client: Lumina Copper

Location: Los Caserones, Chile

Pipe Size: 338mm ID x 50mm WT, 438mm ID x 50mm WT

Qty: 2km x 2

Running Conditions: up to 30bar working pressure, up to 60% Solids, up to 2.7SG

Connection Type: ANSI#300

Date of Purchase: December 2018

Date of Install: April 2019

Summary

DN560 PN25 (76mm mean WT) PE100 was replaced with 438mm ID match, 50mm WT
WearPro.

This piping was used in the most severe and highest risk sections of Caserones'
tailings line. In some cases (an ~150m string) the incidence angle was >42 degrees,
up to 47 degrees. Resulting in severe wear rates not solely due to abrasion.

Extreme velocities of 12 m/s were often observed.

Furthermore, the area is hard to access and rocky throughout. Coupling this
with the high altitude (~4500m) and cold winter temperatures, means that these
tailings lines must service throughout winter (and preferably far longer) without
any mediation.

Thorough testing was carried out, firstly at weekly intervals, then bi-weekly.

Comments

WearPro outperformed PE100 at least 5:1 in lower wear areas (sub 30 degree angles)
and 4:1 in high wear areas (>42 degree angles)

t was found that with WearPro the pipe will last 3 years in lower wear rate areas
(compared with 6-9 months) and 1 year (compared with 3-4 months) in the most
severe areas.

Crucially, this will allow site to NOT attend pipe in the winter months.

Client: Sibelo

Location: KG1, Kunawarra Magnesia Mine

Pipe Size: Sold 297ID 15WT

Qty: 250m (trial length)- Total 2.5km

Connection Type: Stub Flange- Table E

Date of Purchase: March 2014

Date of Install: September 2014

Summary

The wear loss exhibited is half that of hardened Steel. Site was
particualrly pleased with how much lighter and easier the pipes
were to work with, including the lack of need for gaskets and
welding (all the steel is colar welded to allow for rolling, due to
high wear).

Iron

Client Details (Download this case)

Client: SIMEC

Location: Iron Knob & Iron Baron

Pipe Size: DN150 X 34mm WT custom sized

Qty: >4.0km

Connection Type: ANSI150

Date of Purchase: February 2017

Date of Install: May 2017

Summary

High wear rate line, involves some slack flow conditions.

Routinely operates at >5m/s (even >5.6m/s).

Comments

Performance benefits compared to PE100 have been dramatic 4x in high
wear (slack flow areas), up to 6x in lower wear rate zones.

Custom ID has allowed site to run the line harder than originally
designed, and certainly harder than would be
possible with PE100 whereby ID is constricted when moving up a
pressure grade (wall thickness).

Iron

Client: Karara/ AnSteel

Location: Karara

Pipe Size: DN100 x 25mm WT custom sized

Qty: in plant spools.

Connection Type: ANSI#150

Date of Purchase: June 2017

Date of Install: December 2017

Summary

  • Iron Ore fines
  • Max 2000 micron
  • 2.2 SG
  • 5.5 m/s
  • 6-8 bar max

Testing occured weekly for 3d elbows, bi-weekly for 5d elbows, monthly for straignts.

Comments

Results indicate that we are outperforming the previously used PE100 substantially.

We are showing negligible wear on straight spools.

Out performing PE100 4:1 on 3D elbows and 5:1 on 5D elbows.

Mineral Sands

Client Details (Download this case)

Client: Tronox

Location: Cooljarloo

Pipe Size: DN650 x 23mm WT custom sized

Qty: replacing ming hose

Connection Type: Table E

Date of Purchase: September 2013

Date of Install: December 2013

Summary

  • Mineral Sands
  • Max 2000 micron
  • 2.4 SG
  • 4.5 m/s
  • 6 bar max

Comments

Product was designed specifically to wear out, with
a reduced WT. Such that we could determine an appropriate wall thickness for
extended site life. Instead, it has been operational without change since installation.

Dredging

Client Details (Download this case)

Client: Maritime Constructions

Location: Onslow

Pipe Size: Custom 500ID 16 bar and 10 bar MAOP.

Qty: 3.5km x 16bar + 2.5km x 10bar

Connection Type: DN500 Table D and DN550 Table E

Date of Purchase: June 2018

Date of Install: October 2018

Summary

  • Dredging
  • Variable solid size, includes coral and debris.
  • Up to 3.2 SG
  • Up to 6.2 m/s
  • 13 bar max

Comments

WearPro operates at ~6.1 wear rate compared with PE100 in the
first two months of project. This figure is given as estimated due
to the dredged media changing markedly throughout the project.

Where the original wear rate was ~10mm p/mth of PE100 and
1.5mm p/mth of WearPro, this turned into 5mm per month of
WearPro.

After the first two months. the project was no longer regularly
thickness tested - as it became clear that WearPro was vastly
outperforming both steel and HDPE.

Subsequently, the client replaced the small portion of HDPE at
the end of their line 3 times over prior to project completion.
PBA was repeatedly told how lucky it was that our superior
product was chosen, because if the entire line had been run as
the run as the original designed PE100 - this job would be hugely
loss making.

Mutual benefit and balanced performance is exactly why PBA
products are about.
